Note this is a PLASTER CAST of a model originally carved in wood, painted to resemble aged oak. The original carved item would have been very time-consuming to carve with much deep cutting and landscaping effects with fore-, middle and backgrounds. It's interesting to see how carvers worked with the souvenir suppliers, providing the template from which thousands of copies could be cast, with no copyright over their work. This is the plight of many sole-trader artists, who would only get a repeat order when the tempale was too degraded to be copied any more. The style and lettering suggests it's from the 1950s-70s. The central roundel shows the Basilica of the immaculate Conception and below Bernadette Soubirous in the cave kneeling before the apparition of Our Lady.
